Description
Red Jade Vine, (aka mucuna nova quineensis) is an original acrylic painting by Mike Robles. This scene is a composite of two images from the National Tropical Botanical Garden on Kauai.
The New Guinea creeper, its other common name, is a rainforest liana (large, woody vine). Numerous cascading clusters of brilliant red flowers in racemes 3 to 4 inches long dangle from the leafless stems and forms a stunning display when in full flower. This species is much rarer in cultivation than its distant cousin the blue jade vine because not many gardens can accommodate this vigorous vine which may eventually smother large trees.
This painting was done on a fiber board panel supported by a wooden frame. Artist quality acrylic paints were used and it was finished with a combination of gloss acrylic varnish and matte medium.
